It was good to see the programme focus on the positive initiatives, on the community spirit and particularly the honest frank contributions from the young people, especially Ian at The Cavan Centre. That Centre was set up by myself, Pat Carthy, Fergus Mc Cabe, Tim O’Brien, Larry Whelan and others back in the seventies, continuing to do really good work; Pat continues as Director and I am still a member of the Management Committee. Ian is a grand son of founding member the late Larry Whelan.
To clarify – I never used the term ‘no-go’ as reported in The Sunday World; nor did I say people were afraid to walk the area for fear of being shot. I walk the area and do not feel afraid. I did say people were afraid to tackle the dealers because of the easy accessibility of guns. They were the points I made and came out clearly in the documentary.
