I brought up the School Completion Programme with the Tanaiste on Thursday which is under considerable strain coping with cumulative cuts of 30% and coping with the shortfall in other services for schools due to overall national education cuts. A very disappointing response which focused on breakfast clubs which are really an indication of the effects of austerity. School Completion is about much more and is vital in trying to eliminate educational disadvantage. However the Tanaiste said she would look at the issue of ring-fencing the funding as it had been. I will be pursuing this with her.
