I was privileged last week to meet Ann (not her real name), a Magdalene Laundry survivor who was visiting Ireland from her home abroad. Ann was very open and candid about her experiences but that has been something she has only been able to do in recent years. As she put it herself, she was ‘dumped’ into the laundry by her family, age 14.
Her pension and payments have been sorted but there is still the matter of Health and I used my follow-up question with the Minister for Justice on this. Assurances were given that legislation will be ready in weeks and will include provisions for those survivors living abroad.
