I am absolutely appalled that a judge could surmise and decide from a letter I wrote in July, on a bail application for someone who had been on remand for over a year at that stage, that I am condoning the use of violence. The letter was also to highlight the need for those accused to be brought to court more promptly. The ongoing work with prisoners, both in the North and the Republic, has always been to promote a conflict free environment in prison and society.
