Yesterday I was on RTE Radio 1 at lunch time in relation to the major drugs issue we have in this country. Have a listen.
“There are only about 35 detox beds in the whole country.” Last Friday I was in Soilse presenting certs with Fr. Peter Mc Verry to those in recovery, pursuing various education courses. All those young men and women are in recovery; in purely economic terms, this is minimal cost as opposed to what those active in addiction cost the country. But it is of enormous, cannot be measured, value when it comes to the improvement in their lives, in the lives of their families and their communities. And so many of those who have made the recovery journey successfully are now actively supporting those still on that journey.
Read his speech in the Irish Times. “We need a U-turn in drug policy, from prison to treatment.”
