In Ireland in 2015, not one child should be homeless – yet one homeless group is working with 87% more homeless children than last year. Another organisation tells me that 70-plus children will become homeless every month. I was at the lone parent family protest, they make up 60% of the families in emergency accommodation. A further 30,000 one-parent households will be affected by one-parent family payment reform. Currently there are 138,000 children living in consistent poverty. There is also a fear that children will be joining the numbers of rough sleepers. Some of the boarded up voids are being renovated finally but there is a complete lack of urgency. On Thursday I once again called on the Government, who is still blaming the previous Government, to make homelessness an urgency. There is no doubt that there has been preferential treatment for the privileged few while others are left in misery with a Government who is well aware of this and doing nothing short term…
On Thursday I asked the Tánaiste once again; where is the urgency to address this crisis?

there is no urgency cos they do not care. fedup fighting, lone parent carer of an ASD son. fights every way i look. a whole decade of topping up on rent allowance, then 18mths to find current RAS place, court for maintenance, 3 yrs for assessment and diagnosis, 1 yr for DCA and half carers. another fight coming up i guess around the corner. health suffering greatly but at least we have a home/place to live at moment. but no regard for welfare of children from this Govt.
